Common Avoidance Strategies for Raising Tuition

Description

The most difficult decision in the year is to raise tuition. We need to be clear that the difficulty is not in figuring out the amount by which it should be raised. That’s pretty straightforward. We have to maintain the spending power of the budget (inflation) and the competitive power of our compensation (productivity) and then add whatever new positions or resources are needed (strategic planning). That results in a number. The number is never 1% or 1.5%, let alone zero. The number is at least 3% and often more, as much as 4% or even as high as 7%.
