TALK ABOUT RACE
Training with and for your school leaders, Board.
Special curriculum that is age appropriate for your children!
K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
Work closely with your parents to ensure total community understanding.
Talking about race in today’s context is hard. As administrators, we understandably fear that any discussion in this area will end up having the opposite effect than we planned – alienation of one or other of our constituencies, Board dissension, student conflict, and worse. As St. James warns: “The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.” We also know that we must speak Jesus into our culture.
We are called to go forward in hope and we can talk with each other and gain greater understanding and unity. This is what we call ChristianConversation. God calls us to this unity as Jesus himself prayed to His Father: “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me, and I am in you” (John 17). There is a way for us to “let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone” (Colossians 4).
CSM now offers Third Option City training. The Third Option mission is to: Equip communities and cities with the tools to develop racial unity by nurturing loving relationships. We believe that this approach to ChristianConversation is a profound way in which we can impact our schools for Christ. And impact means for our children, our teachers, our staff, and our parents. St. Paul says that we are all the ‘body of Christ’ and each of us has a part to play in that body as we are Jesus’ hands and feet, the hands and feet that were nailed to the Cross, we are those hands and feet in the world. We are awed that, at this time of such great need, God has raised up Third Option City with whom we can partner in order to ‘break down the walls of division’.
Note: the Training Options provided here are for virtual training. If you would prefer in person training, contact CSM for pricing.
As always, CSM’s objective is to make you independent, not co-dependent. We want to leave you in a place where you can develop the unity of the body of Christ in your own school community.
With Third Option City training, we have therefore created two options:
Engage Daniel to facilitate a 6-hour virtual training that will educate and motivate your school leadership team and give them confidence going into this process. Cost is $1500 plus $100 per leader with a minimum of two participants. This includes the cost of Third Option participant materials. This would give you the ability to go to Option Two or Option Three. You can go directly to Option Two or Three without doing Option One.
Engage Daniel to facilitate a 6-hour virtual training for your professional community all together with the intent that each participant is empowered to use the Third Option materials in their classes with the children and/or in working with parents and/or the Board. Cost is $1500 plus $75 a participant. This includes the cost of Third Option participant materials. This is for a maximum of 30 participants. Beyond 30, we split the group for optimal instruction and participation. Each group pays the same training cost.
Engage Daniel to provide virtual “Train the Trainer” training for core leaders for the purpose of turnkey training others to build a training team that can facilitate training internally for all staff at your own pace and process. Cost is $1500 plus $1550* per core leader, which includes all Third Option facilitator materials and training resources (* assumes non-profit status). The minimum number of core leaders is 3.
You are now independent and ready to implement in each classroom. Your teachers are skilled and now know the conversation paradigm. The only additional cost is to obtain your K-2, 3-5, middle school, high school curriculum from Third Option City. The cost is $5.00 an elementary/middle student; $10.00 a high school student. Each Biblically integrated curriculum is age-appropriate K-2; 3-5; 6-8; 9-12.
